Meet the Founders
Sunrise World Hope was founded in 1998 by Robert and Marisol Perez. Their inspiration was when they first witnessed children in El Salvador washing their only set of clothing by hand in the river and then putting back on the wet clothing. Robert and Marisol decided to start shipping containers of clothes, shoes, and toys for families and children in El Salvador and Peru. This led them to Iquitos, Peru in 2003. There in Iquitos is a slum, flood zone area called Belen where children play among filth and floodwaters, often alone and hungry. It is this forgotten area where they started the Sunrise Church in 2008. Expanding their vision of reaching to other regions in Central and South America, they started a second Sunrise in Santa Rosa, El Salvador in 2011.
Robert and Marisol have experienced many cultures and environments throughout the world in more than 20 countries. They operated an import and export business of high end art from Thailand and Indonesia for eight years and lived in Thailand for two years. They traveled extensively throughout Central America and it was in El Salvador where they first started helping to provide for the extreme poor.
Future plans involve planting more churches in El Salvador, Peru and throughout Central and South America.
With hope through Christ, all things are possible.
